Description
Under the direction of an administrator, principal, supervisor or Administrative Instructor at the Marie H. Katzenbach School for the Deaf, conducts classroom instruction according to prescribed course of study; is responsible for student educational progress and behavior; and performs other related work as required.
Requirements
Education
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree.
Experience
(Instructor 2): Four (4) years of teaching experience in the appropriate field of expertise. Experience as a student teacher and/or as a teaching assistant are acceptable forms of teaching experience.
(Instructor 1): One (1) year of teaching experience in the appropriate field of expertise. Experience as a student teacher and/or as a teaching assistant are acceptable forms of teaching experience.
Certification
Possession of a valid Instructional Certificate with endorsements issued by the New Jersey State Board of Examiners, in American Sign Language is required.
Preferred Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, Deaf Education, or related field.
Special Note (MKSD)
Appointees for the Marie H. Katzenbach School for the Deaf must be able to communicate effectively in the language of the deaf, particularly American Sign Language, sufficiently to perform essential functions of this position. Special
Appointees for Marie H. Katzenbach School for the Deaf must have a proficiency level of at least an Intermediate level and must be able to reach the Advanced or higher-level rating on the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) within two years of appointment.
All final candidates must be fingerprinted and bear the $74.91 cost of the criminal history check in order to qualify for employment at the Marie H. Katzenbach School for the Deaf.
